It is hard to believe that we are celebrating the completion of another outstanding year of service and development of the next generation of future leaders in our community and beyond. This year, we faced significant challenges, yet found ways to overcome. Through the tireless efforts of a few dedicated souls, we were able to continue to maintain our high standards of excellence. For these and other reasons, 2022 was probably the most gratifying for me personally.
The Eastlake Male Youth Initiative (EMYI) continues to move forward with our mission of empowering African American males to challenge themselves to be the best that they can be. This year as in previous years, we have inspired and motivated the Class of 2022 to expand their belief in their own possibilities. They have also been given the tools, guidance and mentoring to take on challenges and obstacles that stand between them and
success. As the Program Director, I am encouraged by the growth of our students and the support that we have received from our partners, mentors, and parents.
Although the year began with EMYI accessing health and safety risks for our program and making necessary adjustments to comply we were able to successfully navigate the demands of Covid-19 related challenges. These obstacles over the past two years, however, have only strengthened our resolve to sustain our mission.
We believe that an important part of our work begins with exposing the youth to examples of high achievement by prominent leaders from varied and diverse fields of endeavor. Special thanks go to all those who shared their talent and insights with our students.
In gratitude I acknowledge the dedication of our Morehouse College Student Ambassadors: Ousman Demba, Trenaj Mongo and Martin Washington. These three supported the program in numerous ways, most importantly serving as a bridge between generations. As we move forward, we look to continuing to develop these relationships.
Finally, to the parents and guardians who shared their youth with us and believe in the program. You witnessed firsthand the immeasurable impact that EMYI provides. Thank you for bringing your sons back and entrusting them to our care year after year. We look forward to continuing this journey with you in the months and years ahead. I also want to acknowledge and thank our core contributors and financial supporters. A special thanks to our Angel Donor, who recognized the value of EMYI and made a substantial investment at a critical time of need.
Peace and blessings,
Reverend Kenneth G. Torrence
